Is Lakeland Regional Health in network with UnitedHealthcare for 2027?
Last checked: October 12, 2026.
If you received a letter or notice in 2026 about Lakeland Regional Health and your UnitedHealthcare network in Polk County, treat it as a prompt to verify—not as proof of your 2027 network. Before you change plans during Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period (October 15–December 7), confirm your 2027 network directly with the plan and the hospital. Here's how.

What the 2026 letters said
Members and patients reported receiving notices that Lakeland Regional Health and UnitedHealthcare might not renew their contract on the same terms. For historical context only, LRH's page at Lakeland Regional Health's UnitedHealthcare page (reviewed October 12, 2026) stated that its agreement with UnitedHealthcare for commercial health plans was scheduled to end September 30, 2026; that UnitedHealthcare had not yet agreed to terms; that commercial plans were in network through September 30, 2026; that UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans, including WellMed, were in network through December 31, 2026; and that Medicaid participation had no change at that time. Those dates described the page as we read it—they do not tell you whether your 2027 plan will include Lakeland Regional.
Where things stand (as of October 12, 2026)
We have not found a confirmed public announcement from Lakeland Regional Health or UnitedHealthcare about network participation for calendar year 2027. Third-party blog posts and trackers are not cited here because we could not verify them against a primary hospital or carrier notice. Verify your own 2027 network before you decide to keep, switch, or drop a plan during Annual Enrollment.
For broader market context in Central Florida, see health insurance competition in Central Florida. Employer or Marketplace shoppers with commercial UnitedHealthcare coverage can use the separate ACA carrier overview only as a starting point—still confirm the 2027 provider directory for your exact plan.
How to check whether Lakeland Regional is in network for your 2027 plan
Network answers are plan-specific. The same carrier can have different hospital lists for Medicare Advantage, employer, and individual products.
Medicare.gov Plan Finder (Medicare Advantage and Part D)
For Medicare beneficiaries in Florida, start at Medicare.gov Plan Finder. Enter your ZIP code, add Lakeland Regional Medical Center and each physician, then compare 2027 plans to see whether each provider appears in network for that plan. Plan Finder is the official Medicare tool; carrier websites should match, but confirm both if results differ.
Call the number on your member ID card
Ask member services whether Lakeland Regional Medical Center and your specific doctors are in network for the 2027 plan year, using your plan's marketing name and plan ID. Ask whether any pending contract change affects your product line (Medicare Advantage, employer, individual).
Call Lakeland Regional Health billing or insurance
Use the main hospital contact information on the hospital system's website and ask whether your plan type participates for dates of service in 2027. Hospital billing can confirm facility participation; it may still refer you to each physician office for doctor-level answers.
Read your 2027 Annual Notice of Change
Medicare Advantage and Part D plans send an Annual Notice of Change before Annual Enrollment. Medicare.gov's joining a Medicare plan page explains when you can join, switch, or drop coverage. Compare the ANOC network sections against Plan Finder and your doctors.
Get the answer in writing or document the call
Ask for email confirmation, a portal message, or a reference number. Note the date, time, and representative name. If you are deciding during Annual Enrollment (October 15–December 7), Medicare.gov states the plan must receive your request by December 7 for a January 1 effective date in most cases.
WellMed, AARP-branded plans, and D-SNPs
UnitedHealthcare sells Medicare Advantage plans under several names in Polk County, including AARP-branded plans and networks that include WellMed-affiliated primary care. Dual Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) for people with Medicare and Medicaid have their own plan IDs and provider lists. Do not assume that because one UnitedHealthcare plan includes Lakeland Regional, every UnitedHealthcare or WellMed plan does. Run Plan Finder separately for each 2027 plan you are considering.
If a provider leaves your plan mid-year
Medicare Advantage plans must follow Medicare network and member-notification rules. If a hospital or doctor leaves mid-year, you may have options under Medicare's enrollment rules, but not every network change creates a Special Enrollment Period. Read Medicare.gov Special Enrollment Periods for qualifying events and timing. This page does not list every scenario; when in doubt, call 1-800-MEDICARE or Florida SHINE (floridashine.org) for neutral help.
Original Medicare and Medigap as a different structure
If you have Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), you generally use any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare assignment, with exceptions such as private-contract physicians. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy works with Original Medicare; it does not use Medicare Advantage provider directories. Contract disputes between a hospital system and a Medicare Advantage insurer do not change Original Medicare's nationwide rules, though your out-of-pocket costs still depend on whether the provider accepts assignment. Medicare.gov describes these structures on its coverage basics pages.

Common questions
Is Lakeland Regional Health in network with UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage for 2027?
Network status depends on your exact plan, plan year, and service area. This page does not state yes or no. Use Medicare.gov Plan Finder for 2027 plans, call the number on your member ID card, and confirm with the hospital and your doctors before you change plans during Annual Enrollment (October 15 to December 7).
I got a letter saying Lakeland Regional might be out of network. Is that still true?
Letters from a plan or hospital describe possible future changes; they are not a substitute for checking your 2027 provider directory. Read any Annual Notice of Change, then verify Lakeland Regional Medical Center and each doctor you use on Medicare.gov Plan Finder or by calling the plan and the provider with your plan name and ID.
Does this affect WellMed doctors or AARP-branded Medicare Advantage plans?
WellMed-affiliated doctors and AARP-branded Medicare Advantage plans are still UnitedHealthcare products, but network lists can differ by plan ID. Check each 2027 plan separately in Plan Finder and with the plan's member services line.
Do I need to switch Medicare plans this Annual Enrollment Period?
Not automatically. Annual Enrollment (October 15 to December 7) is when most people with Medicare can change Medicare Advantage or Part D plans for the following year. Compare your doctors, hospital, prescriptions, and plan documents first. Do not switch based on a letter alone without verifying your 2027 network.
What if a provider leaves my Medicare Advantage network mid-year?
Medicare.gov explains that Medicare Advantage plans must follow network and notification rules, and that some qualifying events may allow a Special Enrollment Period. The allowed change and timing depend on the event. Read Medicare.gov's joining-a-plan and Special Enrollment Period pages rather than assuming you can change plans immediately.
Does this affect Original Medicare with a Medigap policy?
Original Medicare generally lets you see any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare assignment, subject to Medicare's billing rules. Private contract and opt-out providers are exceptions. Medigap works with Original Medicare; it does not use Medicare Advantage provider directories. Medicare.gov describes how Original Medicare coverage works.
