What to know first
- AccidentWise is a limited-benefit accident product. It pays a stated cash amount for a covered accidental injury, not the full medical bill.
- It is not major medical insurance, not a Medicare replacement, not ACA-compliant coverage, not Minimum Essential Coverage, and not a substitute for primary coverage.
- Current product materials list issue ages 18 through 75 for the primary applicant, 16 through 75 for a spouse or domestic partner, and eligible dependent children generally under age 26, subject to state definitions.
- Current materials list Florida among available states. Availability, the writing path, and the issued terms still must be verified for your ZIP code before you apply.
This page explains the product conceptually. It is not a quote, medical advice, or a promise that AccidentWise will replace major medical coverage or pay every accident-related expense.
What AccidentWise is
AccidentWise is accidental-injury insurance underwritten by Golden Rule Insurance Company, a UnitedHealthcare Individual & Family company. Current materials describe it as fixed-benefit coverage for covered accidents only: if a listed accidental injury occurs and the claim is payable, the policy may pay a set cash amount.
That cash can help with deductibles, copays, follow-up visits, or other costs that remain after an accident. It does not turn the policy into major medical insurance, Medicare coverage, ACA-compliant health insurance, or a substitute for primary coverage.
Current product materials describe scheduled cash benefits that can include hospital admission, emergency-room care, urgent care, major diagnostic exams, follow-up or physical therapy visits subject to visit limits, outpatient surgery, and accidental loss of life, limb, or sight. Amounts scale by plan tier. Sickness and disease are outside this accident benefit.
Current materials do not describe medical underwriting. Incorrect or incomplete application information may still void coverage or affect claims. Current materials also describe the coverage as guaranteed renewable until listed termination triggers, with premiums not increased solely because of claims or a change in health. Florida rate-increase notices are described as at least 45 days. The issued policy controls.
How accident benefits pay
You do not need a full dollar schedule to understand the design.
A covered accidental injury occurs
The injury and the treatment must be covered under the policy that is issued.
The policy pays the scheduled cash benefit
The payment is a stated amount for that listed event, not a percentage of the medical bill.
You may still owe the bill difference
If the medical charge is higher than the benefit, you may still owe the remaining balance.
Current product materials describe Plan 10000, Plan 15000, and Plan 20000, with scheduled cash benefits that scale by tier. This page does not publish premiums or a quote-looking rate card. Any dollar amount discussed in a review is illustrative only, labeled as current product materials, and is subject to the current Florida offering and the issued policy. It is not a quote.
Who it may fit
AccidentWise may be worth comparing if you already have ACA Marketplace, employer, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, or other comprehensive coverage, and want a separate cash benefit if a covered accidental injury happens.
It is a weaker fit if you are looking for major medical insurance, a Medicare replacement, ACA-compliant coverage, Minimum Essential Coverage, or a policy that pays for sickness or disease. Confirm household eligibility, including a spouse or domestic partner and dependent children, on the current Florida application.
How accident insurance differs from major medical, Medigap, and hospital indemnity
Major medical or Medigap
- Major medical is designed as primary health coverage for a wide range of care, including sickness.
- Medigap helps with cost sharing on services Medicare already covers.
- Those products are not limited-benefit accident policies.
AccidentWise accident insurance
- Pays a stated cash amount for a covered accidental injury or other listed accident event.
- Does not replace major medical, Medicare, Medigap, Medicare Advantage, or ACA coverage.
- Does not make the policy comprehensive, and it is not Minimum Essential Coverage.
Hospital indemnity, such as HospitalWise or Hospital SafeGuard GI for ages 18 through 64 or AdvantageGuard for ages 60 through 90, is tied to covered hospital stays rather than accident-only events. Critical illness, such as CriticalGuard, is tied to listed qualifying diagnoses rather than accident-only events. Health ProtectorGuard pays scheduled benefits for listed medical services and is a different Golden Rule product. AccidentWise is the accident-only cash-benefit path.
What to verify before applying
- Florida availability. Current product materials list Florida, but the offering still must be confirmed for your ZIP code and the current writing path.
- Plan tier. Current materials describe Plan 10000, Plan 15000, and Plan 20000. Review the current schedule rather than assuming a dollar amount from this page.
- Treatment timing windows. Current materials describe emergency-room or urgent-care treatment within 72 hours; hospital admission, major diagnostic exams, and outpatient surgery within 30 days; and accidental loss of life, limb, or sight within 90 days.
- Exclusions. Current materials exclude non-accident sickness or disease, war, active military service, felony or riot, high-risk activities, certain aircraft, workers compensation, cosmetic treatment, services by immediate family, and other listed exclusions.
- Application accuracy. Current materials do not describe medical underwriting. Incorrect or incomplete information may still void coverage or affect claims.
- How it sits beside coverage you already have. Confirm that you are adding a limited accident cash benefit, not replacing major medical, Medicare, Medigap, Medicare Advantage, or other comprehensive coverage.
This page does not publish premiums, county-level availability, or a benefit-amount rate card. Those items must be confirmed from the current Florida offering. Current materials emphasize scheduled cash benefits for covered accidental injuries rather than a medical-provider network.
