Direct answer: A Part B giveback is a Medicare Advantage feature that lowers the Part B premium you pay, usually through a bigger Social Security deposit. It is not cash, and it isn't available if Medicaid or a state program already pays your premium. Several large insurers cut givebacks for 2027, so compare total yearly cost first.
CMS set the standard 2026 Part B premium at $202.90 a month. This page does not state a 2027 Part B or IRMAA figure. A giveback reduces some or all of the Part B premium a Medicare Advantage plan agrees to pay toward. The 2027 amount, if any, is on that plan’s Annual Notice of Change and Summary of Benefits.
What the Part B giveback is (and isn't)
Plans often market this as a “Part B giveback,” “Part B reduction,” or “Part B premium reduction.” It is a reduction of the Part B premium you owe, not a rebate check and not extra Social Security income you can spend however you like. Original Medicare does not offer this feature. Only some Medicare Advantage plans do, and the amount can be $0 next year even if it was available this year.
Who can't use it: Medicaid or a state pays your Part B premium
If Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program already pays your Part B premium, a giveback generally has nothing left to reduce. Choosing a giveback plan in that situation can still change your doctors, drugs, and out-of-pocket maximum. Confirm with Florida DCF / ACCESS Florida and the plan before you treat the giveback as a reason to enroll.
How it shows up: Social Security deposit or Medicare bill
Most people who pay Part B through Social Security see a giveback as a larger monthly deposit. People who are billed by Medicare may see a lower bill. Ask Social Security or 1-800-MEDICARE when the reduction should appear. It may not show in the first month of the plan year, and some months may be adjusted later. Keep the plan’s Summary of Benefits so you can compare what was promised with what arrived.
The trade: giveback vs. network, drug costs, and out-of-pocket maximum
A giveback can look large and still be a poor fit. In Polk County, check Lakeland Regional Health, Watson Clinic, specialists, each prescription, and the in-network out-of-pocket maximum on the exact 2027 plan. Givebacks shrank for many 2027 plans: check your Annual Notice of Change
Healthcare Dive reported on October 1, 2026, citing a Leerink analysis of Plan Finder, that large Medicare Advantage insurers cut dental allowances and Part B givebacks for 2027. One large insurer reduced or ended the giveback for 62% of its members. That is a reported analysis, not a Polk County inventory. Your notice and Plan Finder are the records that apply to you. CMS also said Plan Finder now flags changes to a current plan for 2027.
A quick total-yearly-cost check
- Write down the 2027 giveback amount from the Summary of Benefits (or $0 if it ended).
- Add the plan premium, if any.
- Estimate specialist visits, hospital risk, and the out-of-pocket maximum.
- Price every prescription at your pharmacy on that plan.
- Compare the total with a plan that has a smaller giveback and a better network fit.
Use the Polk County Annual Enrollment checklist. Annual Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs October 15 through December 7, 2026.

Common questions
How do I receive a Part B giveback?
If the plan offers a Part B premium reduction, it usually shows up as a larger Social Security deposit or a lower Medicare bill, not as a separate check. Confirm the amount and the payment method on the plan's Summary of Benefits, then ask Social Security or 1-800-MEDICARE how it will appear for you.
Why hasn't my giveback shown up yet?
The reduction is processed through Medicare and, when applicable, Social Security. It may not appear in the first deposit or bill of the plan year. Ask Social Security or 1-800-MEDICARE when your reduction should start and whether any months will be adjusted later.
Can I get a giveback if I have Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program?
Usually no extra value. If Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program already pays your Part B premium, a giveback generally does not put additional money in your pocket. Confirm with the program and the plan before you choose a giveback plan for that reason.
Is a giveback plan worth a narrower network?
Not if the doctors, hospital, or drugs you use are out of network or not covered. Compare the giveback amount against specialist copays, the out-of-pocket maximum, and prescription costs for the exact 2027 plan. A larger Social Security deposit does not help if Lakeland Regional Health or Watson Clinic is not in the plan.
Did my plan's giveback change for next year?
Check the Annual Notice of Change and Medicare Plan Finder. A reported October 2026 analysis of Plan Finder data said large Medicare Advantage insurers reduced or ended Part B givebacks for many 2027 members. Your letter and the 2027 Summary of Benefits are the documents that apply to you.
